Florentino Pérez took aim at a well-known Spanish radio host during an emergency press conference on Tuesday, accusing him of a lack of respect toward Real Madrid. The host responded live on air, telling the club president to “take care of it yourself.”
The Real Madrid president called the press conference at short notice and, when taking questions from the media, COPE reporter Melchor Ruiz asked about the team’s sporting performance, a key concern for members. “You clearly want to protect the interests of the members, but many are worried about sporting results. Have you identified the mistakes?” Ruiz asked.
Pérez nodded and said, “I’m worried too.” Then, in a characteristic shift, he turned his focus to the media. “We have to fight many people. Since you’re from COPE, please tell Juanma Castaño that he’s doing this every day, every moment. Tell him to show some respect for the best club in history. That’s all I want to say: talk to him and ask him to take care of Real Madrid.”
Castaño, host of COPE’s “Tiempo de Juego” and “El Partidazo” shows, heard the comments during the live broadcast and responded immediately. “You take care of it yourself. You take care of it yourself,” he said bluntly.
The exchange highlights the growing tension between Pérez and the media amid a difficult season for Real Madrid, with the club facing criticism from both fans and the press.
