Former world No. 1 golfer Ai Miyazato, 40, who boasts 15 wins on the Japan Tour and nine on the LPGA Tour, took to Instagram on the 11th to reflect on the final day of the World Salpas Cup, held Sunday on the domestic circuit.
“Another four days have come to an end… The final stretch was thrilling,” Miyazato wrote. “In a tough setup, with players mentally and physically drained, there were so many best shots—it kept me on edge watching.”
She heaped praise on Yui Kawamoto of Ricoh, who claimed her first major title. “Congratulations!! Her third shot on the 17th and second shot on the 18th—I had to take my hat off…!!” Miyazato said. “I’m so happy I got to witness her first major win in person.”
Miyazato also lauded Ai Suzuki of Salesforce, who surged from 11th place to second in the final round with a 67 (2 eagles, 3 birdies, 2 bogeys). “Her fierce chase was incredible too!!! The dramatic finish, combined with a battle worthy of a major, made for a captivating final day,” she added.
