Edgars Tocs and Gustavs Auzinš claimed victory for Latvia at the Beach Pro Futures Madrid, while Mart Tiisaar and Dimitriy Korotkov were forced to withdraw due to injury.
The 2026 Beach Pro Tour Futures Madrid concluded at the Puerta de Hierro Sports Park with Latvian duo Edgars Tocs and Gustavs Auzinš taking the title. In the semifinals, they came from behind to defeat Hungary’s Tari and Niemeier. The second semifinal was played under heavy rain between the Netherlands’ Sonneville and Groenewold and Estonia’s Mart Tiisaar and Dimitriy Korotkov, who secured a Baltic final by winning both sets.
The afternoon session began with the bronze medal match, where two young pairs delivered an exciting contest. Sonneville and Groenewold prevailed 21-17, 21-17. Unfortunately, the final between Edgars Tocs and Gustavs Auzinš and Mart Tiisaar and Dimitriy Korotkov did not end well. The first set was dominated by the Latvians from start to finish (21-11), but early in the second set, a back injury to Mart Tiisaar forced their retirement.
A total of 28 pairs from nearly 20 countries participated in the event. This week, attention shifts to the women’s event and the CEV Nations Cup.
